Never heard of a "Makerspace?" A "Makerspace" or "Innovation Studio" is a place where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. The goal of a makerspace is to simulate creativity, innovation and idea exchange, to facilitate entrepreneurship, and other potential local economic development. We are seeing this popular trend in public libraries across the nation and are excited that the North Platte Public Library decided to put in a permanent dedicated makerspace room in 2018.

From September 4, 2018 until January 20, 2019, the Library has an Innovation Studio grant providing a variety of makerspace equipment such as: 3D Printer and 3D Scanner, Laser Cutter, Vinyl Cutter, CNC Router, Lego Mindstorms Kit, Lilypad Design Kit, SparkFun Inventor's Kit, Makey Makey, Camera and Video Creator Kit, an Embroidery Machine; and more. While we have the equipment, we will be making note of which equipment has the highest utilization and then when the equipment leaves in 2019, the Library will be purchasing our own equipment. If you want to learn more about our grant or the equipment coming in September 2018, please go to: http://nlc.nebraska.gov/grants/InnovationStudios.
