The Connection was started 24 years ago by a small but hearty group, compelled by the Scriptures, that saw an unmet need: to help those most in need - the homeless/transient population. What started with two hots (hot meals) and a cot in the basement of the old Salvation Army evolved to buying a 100 year old building downtown for an official shelter. In 2010, we moved to a new 16,000 square foot building which is our current location.
The Thrift Connection has operated at five different locations over the past 23 years - come shop/donate/volunteer with us at our current address of 501 East 5th Street! Hours are Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m -4 p.m.
In 2015 we opened the Construction Thrift Store at 422 East 6th St. Hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
The shelter served 237 adults and 36 children in 2017, 18 were Veterans and 11 were seniors over the age of 65.
Our open dining room served just under 1,500 meals to local, non-homeless residents who would not otherwise have had a meal that day.
Our weekend/emergency food pantry provided over 30 food boxes when the other food pantries were closed.
